Why Support the Heritage Winooski Mill Museum?
The Mill Museum is a special place that holds special meaning to many people. About 2000 people visit annually and participate in our programs for a wide range of reasons.
To connect with the past:
People visit our gallery to learn more about relatives who worked at American Woolen Mill or other textile mills in New England. School groups participating in our educator led programs gain a deeper understanding of the industrial revolution and its impact on our society.
Your support will help us update our Child Labor exhibit and help to increase understanding and accessibility through an interactive Children’s Corner. The new exhibit will also add information about child labor laws and global child labor issues today and ways for visitors to take action.
To connect with neighbors:
Our exhibitions, such as the Welcome Blanket project, inspire visitors to share family stories about work and immigration. Exhibitions about recent history such as Mill to Mall engage the community to reminisce. Stories help individuals from diverse backgrounds build connections and find common ground.
Funding for 2025 will help create a new part time educator position, increase school group outreach, and support new community presentations and thought provoking discussions.
To build an inclusive community:
Our programs for Refugees, such as our Stitch Together knitting program, help our newest community members gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for their new home, and build a sense of belonging.
Help us sustain ongoing outreach programs for marginalized community members. With your support, we can add more workshops, such as natural dye and fiber arts classes for Refugees and New Americans.
